L. Rachelle’s BET Sunday Best Season 5 Review “Nine”
WOW!! There are NO words that can convey the excitement that took place in tonight’s episode (Episode 11, September 2, 2012) of Sunday Best…except—PHENOMINAL!. It was a two hour Grand finale that will not be soon forgot. … This has been the best season (Season 5) of BET Sunday Best. The episode started off with the Kingsmen singing a wonderful revision of all their songs. The Kingsmen include Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, Israel Houghton, and Kirk Franklin. Also, the celebrity roster, in tonight’s episode, included Kirk Carr, Marvin L. Winans, Yolanda Adams, Tye Tribbett, Ledisi, and vocal coach Kim Burrell. They all sung wonderfully and added to the greatness in the atmosphere. Also, it was wonderful to see some of Seasons 5 top ten contestants sitting in the audience. Like, Joshua said, “Even though they left the show—they still showed support every step of the way”. What a delightful display of sportsmanship. However, we all were waiting for the show to get down to business…(so to speak)
Well, since last week’s episode, we all have made our predictions and casted our votes—and it has all come down to THIS. For the first time, in BET Sunday Best history, we have a male winner. Give it up for Joshua “Young Buck” Rodgers. (Yeah!!) We are all so proud of him. What a wonderful gift and awesome talent he possesses. However, like judge Donnie McClurkin said, “It’s more than just a gift—it’s the Anointing”. Our hearts can concur with Donnie…the anointing was definitely conveyed through each song that Joshua sung. I know we all were shouting along with Joshua and Alexis as the power of God overshadowed them both and they begin to dance in the spirit. (Awesomeness)
Still, I know that this was a very close contest and like I said before, I know that the judges were glad that this decision was not in their hands. Miss Alexis “Baby Girl” Spight did a wonderful job. She, also, conveyed her heart through each song. Like Kirk said, “If we could crown them both—we would”. However, we know that—that was not possible. Still, Miss Alexis did not let down. She sung her heart every step of the way. We are so very proud of her. We are glad to have been privileged to have her share her gift with us all. Furthermore, it was wonderful to see how both their families gave them support and love
So, this may be the end of Season Five’s BET Sunday Best but it is just the beginning of something new. This journey has just begun. We look to hear and see from Joshua and Alexis in their future endeavors as they both trod toward their destinies. So for now, we leave the show with a resounding—JIMMY!!! (as said by our comedic host Kirk Franklin)…And that’s a WRAPP!!!
