L.Rachelle’s BET Sunday Best Season 5 Review “Four”

L.Rachelle’s BET Sunday Best Season 5 Review “Four”

OH MY LORD!! This competition just got SERIOUS! After last week’s performances each contestant came back ready to bring it and sing it. If you didn’t know before THIS EPISODE (July 29, 2012 Episode 6) …you know by now…and if you don’t know by NOW…you’d better ask somebody.  It seems that each contestant took serious the advice of the judges and the counsel of vocal mentor, Ms. Kim Burrell. They came back representing.

Kirk Franklin, our enthusiastic host, stated several times that this episode’s theme was all about grace and surely were experienced the ambience of it.  This week’s special guest, LeAndria Johnson, Season Four’s winner, jumped the show off with a powerful performance. All that can be said is…MY LORD…SERIOUSLY?? What a dynamic minister of song.  However, she was just warming the stage for what was to come.

Ashford Sanders, who was told by Judge CeCe Winas, on last week’s episode, that she was a fan, came out on stage full of confidence. He gave his laid back version of “I love Jesus”.  As before, his voice was melodic and smooth.  He was followed by Ms. Kizzy Walker who gave her churchy version of “Oh How Precious is the Name of Jesus”. Furthermore, Ms. Walker was challenged by Judge Donnie McClurkin to sing out of her comfort zone. Still, she did a great job. Next, Danetra Moore, who did a great job from start to finish, gave her wonderful churchy version of “I want it All Back”. She, also, did a lovely job. Then, Alexis Spight showed her vocal versatility in genre by giving an amazing performance of “Be Grateful”.  Following Alexa was Michael Lampkin who showed much skill and brought CeCe to her feet with his anointed version of, “I Need a Word from the Lord”.

Now, what Joshua Rodgers, a.k.a “Young Buck”, did was …One word…POWERFUL!! Mr. Rodgers came out and took the stage. He gave a powerful anointed rendition of “Peace Be Still”. He sung with such passion and purpose. The fact that he moved the audience and judges to tears in one minute was simply amazing. He has been graced with a tremendous skill. His performance was so magnificently enriched with the anointing that it bought Donnie McClurkin to tears and left CeCe Winas speechless.  Yolanda Adams gave an astounding assessment of Mr. Rodgers’ performance. She said, “There is Vanessa Bell Armstrong, then there’s Daryl Coley, then Kim Burrell, and then there’s Joshua Rodgers”. If that isn’t singing with passion, skill, and purpose…I don’t know what is.

MY, MY, MY!! Well, dear fans…It remains to be seen. I think the fellas may win one this year… I know Kirk Franklin is very hopeful. On another note, it isn’t over yet and unfortunately this week’s process eliminated Ms. Sara Escamilla and Brian Luther. They did well and presented their personal best. I congratulate them for making it this far. However, the judges are looking for more confidence and power. But for now, six contestants remain…so the plot thickens! A words of caution…”it’s about to go DOWN”.
