Shirley Murdock & Regina Belle – Upward Way
Singer/songwriter Shirley Murdock started out singing gospel music in her native Toledo. Roger Troutman hired her as a background singer for his family’s group Zapp, who had several hits on Warner Brothers (or its Reprise imprint). Regina Belle emerged as a prolific singer, consistently engaging vocalist on the urban contemporary scene. Born in New Jersey, Belle’s early experience was in gospel. She sang her first solo in church at age 8; and by age 17, she was the church’s star singer.
