Music Spotlight: Keesha Rainey

Keesha Rainey broke onto the gospel music scene with her hit single, “Breakthrough.”  She is now poised to leave her mark on the industry with a sound and style all her own.

Keesha was born in Music City (Nashville, TN – some consider it the home to the gospel music industry).  It was there that she started her journey into becoming the great up and coming gospel artist of today.  It has always been a dream of her’s to become a music artist.  She got her start singing in the choir at her family church in Antioch, TN at age 6.  It was also at this young age in her life, that she began to hone her skills — not only vocally, but her musical and leadership abilities as well.

Early on in Rainey’s career, she had an awesome blessing of being able to travel the country with her manager’s group:  Donnie, Darryl, and The Joyboyz.   This privilege allowed her the opportunity to not only sing and share the stage with them but to also develop more as an artist.

Keesha, who is signed to JSound Records, released her debut album Breakthrough on March 17, 2009.  The producer of the project shares that, “People will really get to see her personality on this ‘out of the box’ cd — which is really exciting to her.”

Breakthrough is an album that has no barriers; it crosses over many genres with sounds influenced by rock, R&B, jazz, neo soul, and funk.   It is a spiritual melting pot intertwined with the gospel — which has no limitations and will surely reach the masses.

Not only is Keesha a singer, but she is also a songwriter – having written two songs on her project:  “Call Him” and her personal testimony “Breakthrough”.  She also co-wrote other songs off her project titled “Another Chance,” and “Rejoice”.

The song “Rejoice” made history on CJB (internet radio station) for being the only song to remain #1 on the charts for 6 weeks consecutively, as well as being #3 on the charts for CJB Radio Top 50 songs of 2010.

God has definitely favored Keesha over the last several years; she has been blessed immensely, i.e., in 2007 and again in 2009 she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year at The Gospel City Music awards in Nashville, TN.  In 2010, Keesha was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Best Urban Soul song for “Another Chance,” as well as Best Urban Soul Album for the 2010 EnSound Music Awards.  She then became 2010 Nashville Independent Music Awards nominee for Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist.

Fast forward to 2012, Keesha was recently featured on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel, and once again she has received her third nomination from The Gospel Music City Awards for “Artist of the Year.”

Keesha truly loves God, and it’s evident by the many blessings bestowed upon her life.  Let’s continue to support her as she shares her song with the world.
