Evelyn has been singing all her life. She began recording with her father and three male cousins as a teenager in St. Louis, Missouri. As a young woman, she continued recording with local groups after getting married and moving to Detroit, Michigan. She appeared as a solo artist on major label compilation projects and thusly began her national solo career. She recorded her first national solo project with CGI Records in 1990 and received many awards and nominations including a Stellar Award nomination for Traditional Female Artist and a Lady of Soul nomination.
Born into a family of 18 children in St. Louis, Missouri, Ms. Turrentine-Agee moved to Detroit in 1962, where she currently resides. Ms. Turrentine-Agee began singing with her father when she was three and has sung with many gospel groups including the Gospel Echoettes and The War On Sin Choir. Her release, “God Did It,” was a big success receiving several nominations and awards. Her next project, “It’s Already Done” (on AIR Gospel Records), won a 2004 Stellar Award for “Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year.” Ms. Turrentine-Agee most recent project is entitled, “Go Through.” Main Source: Detroit Gospel Website.
